When you order a VPS or Dedicated Server, you will be asked to choose an operating system. The right choice depends on what you plan to run and your level of experience.
Popular Options
Ubuntu
Ubuntu is one of the most popular Linux distributions for servers. It is user-friendly, has excellent community support, and a huge library of available packages. Ubuntu LTS (Long Term Support) releases receive security updates for five years, making them ideal for production servers. Recommended for most users, especially if you are new to Linux.
Debian
Debian is the distribution Ubuntu is based on. It is known for its rock-solid stability and conservative approach to updates. Debian is a great choice if stability is your top priority and you do not need the very latest software versions.
AlmaLinux / Rocky Linux
These are community-driven replacements for CentOS, designed for enterprise workloads. They are binary-compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and are well suited for production environments, hosting panels like cPanel, and applications that were designed for CentOS.
Windows Server
If your application requires a Windows environment (such as ASP.NET, MSSQL, or specific Windows-only software), Windows Server is available on select plans. Note that Windows Server licensing adds to the cost of your server.
Reccommendation: If you are unsure, start with Ubuntu LTS. It has the broadest community support, the most tutorials available online, and works well for virtually any workload.
