Backups are your safety net. Whether you are about to install a new mod, make a major configuration change, or simply want peace of mind, creating a backup ensures you can always roll back to a known good state.
Creating a Backup
Step 1: Open the Backups Tab
In the Pterodactyl panel, navigate to your server and click on the Backups tab.
Step 2: Create a New Backup
Click the Create Backup button. You can give the backup a name (for example, "Before Mod Update") and optionally choose to lock it so it cannot be accidentally deleted.
Step 3: Wait for Completion
The backup will be created in the background. Depending on the size of your server files, this may take a few moments. You will see the backup appear in the list once it is complete.
Restoring a Backup
To restore a backup, find it in the Backups tab and click the Restore button. You will be asked to confirm, as restoring a backup will overwrite your current server files with the backed-up versions. Make sure your server is stopped before restoring.
Downloading a Backup
You can also download backups to your local machine for offline storage. Click the download icon next to any backup in the list. This is a good practice for critical data - keeping a copy outside the server adds an extra layer of protection.
Best Practice: Create a backup before every major change - mod installations, configuration edits, version updates, and world resets. Automate regular backups using the Pterodactyl scheduler for ongoing protection.
